Uncertainty is widely spread in real-world data. Uncertain data-in computer science-is typically found in the area of sensor networks where the sensors sense the environment with certain error. Mining and visualizing uncertain data is one of the new challenges that face uncertain databases. This paper presents a new intelligent hybrid algorithm that applies fuzzy set theory into the context of the Self-Organizing Map to mine and visualize uncertain objects. The algorithm is tested in some benchmark problems and the uncertain traffics in Named Data Networking (NDN). Experimental results indicate that the proposed algorithm is precise and effective in terms of the applied performance criteria.Peer ReviewedPostprint (published version

Information-Centric Networking (ICN) has recently been considered as a promising paradigm for the next-generation Internet, shifting from the sender-driven end-to-end communication paradigma to a receiver-driven content retrieval paradigm. In ICN, content -rather than hosts, like in IP-based design- plays the central role in the communications. This change from host-centric to content-centric has several significant advantages such as network load reduction, low dissemination latency, scalability, etc. One of the main design requirements for the ICN architectures -since the beginning of their design- has been strong security. Named Data Networking (NDN) (also referred to as Content-Centric Networking (CCN) or Data-Centric Networking (DCN)) is one of these architectures that are the focus of an ongoing research effort that aims to become the way Internet will operate in the future. Existing research into security of NDN is at an early stage and many designs are still incomplete. To make NDN a fully working system at Internet scale, there are still many missing pieces to be filled in. In this dissertation, we study the four most important security issues in NDN in order to defense against new forms of -potentially unknown- attacks, ensure privacy, achieve high availability, and block malicious network traffics belonging to attackers or at least limit their effectiveness, i.e., anomaly detection, DoS/DDoS attacks, congestion control, and cache pollution attacks. In order to protect NDN infrastructure, we need flexible, adaptable and robust defense systems which can make intelligent -and real-time- decisions to enable network entities to behave in an adaptive and intelligent manner. In this context, the characteristics of Computational Intelligence (CI) methods such as adaption, fault tolerance, high computational speed and error resilient against noisy information, make them suitable to be applied to the problem of NDN security, which can highlight promising new research directions. Hence, we suggest new hybrid CI-based methods to make NDN a more reliable and viable architecture for the future Internet.

Background and Aims: Besides toxic effects on human, animals and plants, aromatic hydrocarbons may also be effective in the formation of photochemical smog. The measurement of these hydrocarbons, therefore, play aprominent part in evaluating their health and environmental impacts. The purpose of this study was to compare pump and adsorption sampling method with solid phase microextraction (SPME) to investigate changes in theconcentration of benzene, toluene, and xylene (BTX).Materials and Methods: SPME samplers in sampling protective holders were placed in ambient air at a relatively high traffic routes for 5 days. Sampling was carried out in two seasons. Samples were analyzed at the end of sampling period. In addition, pump and adsorption sampling method was also used to measure the concentrations of benzene, toluene, and xylene. Ethical issues were all considered in conducting the study and citation. Results: The obtained results in solid phase microextraction sampling method were compared with those obtained using the conventional pump and adsorbent method. Correlation coefficients (R2) between these methods were 0.98, 0.9 and 0.95 for benzene, toluene, and xylene, respectively. The results obtained with pump and adsorption method showed a higher values in general. Conclusion: The comparison between obtained results with these methods indicates a relatively similar values. It may be concluded that SPME sampling method can also present reliable results for the measurement of benzene, toluene and xylene concentrations in the ambient air. Keywords: Passive sampling, SPME, Benzene, Toluene, XyleneFor downloading the full text please click here

The effects were evaluated of chronic stress and the glucocorticoid receptor antagonist (RU486) on mRNA expressions of RF-amide related peptide-3 (RFRP-3) in the dorsomedial hypothalamic nucleus (DMH) and Kiss1 in the arcuate nucleus (ARC) of male rats. Twenty-four male rats were allocated to four equal sized groups: the stress, RU486, stress/RU486, and control groups. In the stress group the rats were restrained 1 hour/day for 12 days. In the RU486 group, the rats were injected with RU486 for 12 days. In the stress/RU486 group, the rats were injected with RU486 1 hour before the stress process for 12 days. Relative expressions of RFRP-3 and Kiss1 mRNAs were determined using real-time PCR. The relative expression of RFRP-3 mRNA in the stress group was higher than that in the RU486 and control rats. The relative expression of RFRP-3 mRNA did not differ between the stress group and the stress/RU486 rats. Furthermore, the relative expressions of Kiss1 mRNA in the stress, RU486, and stress/RU486 groups were less than that of the control rats. The relative expression of Kiss1 mRNA did not differ between the stress, RU486, and stress/RU486 groups. In conclusion, dysfunction in male rat fertility caused by the chronic stress may be the result of the increase in REFP-3 and the decrease in Kiss1 mRNA expression.

The Role of Nanomaterials in the Treatment of Diseases and Their Effects on the Immune System

Nanotechnology has been widely exploited in recent years in various applications. Different sectors of medicine and treatment have also focused on the use of nanoproducts. One of the areas of interest in the treatment measures is the interaction between nanomaterials and immune system components. Engineered nanomaterials can stimulate the inhibition or enhancement of immune responses and prevent the detection ability of the immune system. Changes in immune function, in addition to the benefits, may also lead to some damage. Therefore, adequate assessment of the novel nanomaterials seems to be necessary before practical use in treatment. However, there is little information on the toxicological and biological effects of nanomaterials, especially on the potential ways of contacting and handling nanomaterials in the body and the body response to these materials. Extensive variation and different properties of nanomaterials have made it much more difficult to access their toxicological effects to the present. The present study aims to raise knowledge about the potential benefits and risks of using the nanomaterials on the immune system to design and safely employ these compounds in therapeutic purposes

Alterations in juvenile diploid and triploid African catfish skin gelatin yield and amino acid composition: effects of chlorpyrifos and butachlor exposures

Skin is a major by-product of the fisheries and aquaculture industries and is a valuable source of gelatin. This study examined the effect of triploidization on gelatin yield and proximate composition of the skin of African catfish (Clarias gariepinus). We further investigated the effects of two commonly used pesticides , chlorpyrifos (CPF) and butachlor (BUC), on the skin gelatin yield and amino acid composition in juvenile full-sibling diploid and triploid African catfish. In two separate experiments, diploid and triploid C. gariepinus were exposed for 21 days to graded CPF [mean measured: 10, 16, or 31 mg/L] or BUC concentrations [Mean measured: 22, 44, or 60 mg/L]. No differences in skin gelatin yield, amino acid or proximate compositions were observed between diploid and triploid control groups. None of the pesticide treatments affected the measured parameters in diploid fish. In triploids, however, gelatin yield was affected by CPF treatments while amino acid composition remained unchanged. Butachlor treatments did not alter any of the measured variables in triploid fish. To our knowledge, this study is the first to investigate changes in the skin gelatin yield and amino acid composition in any animal as a response to polyploidization and/or contaminant exposure
